A 7 year-old girl, Somer Thompson, from Clay County, Florida, had been missing since she became separated from her schoolmates on her way home from school in Orange Park, Florida, on Monday.

Beseler says that he informed the missing girl’s mother Diena Thompson that the body found Wednesday night was indeed her daughter. Official confirmation of the body is pending a medial examination to be completed Thursday.

But identifying traits – a birthmark and clothing remains – indicate the body is that of Somer, reveals Beseler to GMA Thursday morning.

A vigil was held Wednesday night for Somer. The 7 year old was last seen Monday returning home on foot from school.A homicide investigation is being conducted but there are no details about the way the girl died.
