Thailand excluded from Nehru Cup

Thailand has been excluded from this month’s Nehru Cup football tournament because organizers say the country reneged on an agreement to send a first-choice side to India. Alberto Colaco, secretary of the All India Football Federation which organizes the invitational tournament, said Thailand would be replaced by Palestine in the six-nation event.

Rimil Buriuly and Dola Banerjee propelled Indian womens recurve team to finish third behind Russia and world champions Korea in the Archery World Cup Stage IV in Shanghai today. The Indian trio of Rimil, Dola and Pratima Boro enabled India to score a total of 3974 points and lie behind Russian Federation (4007) and Korea (4100), according to information received here from the Archery Association of India (AAI).

Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Mark Knowles, seeded third, crashed out of the ATP Legg Mason Classic event after losing a tough quarterfinal match to Martin Damm and Robert Lindstedt.
